In Switzerland
Maisha Zanzibar is a non profit association according to Swiss law. It was founded in Zurich on June 23rd, 2008 through the founders and members of the executive board Barbara Eggenberger and Malou Buergi.
Soon after its foundation it got legally exempt from taxation through the tax administration of the county of Zurich. Accordingly all donations are tax deductible.
Maisha is a Swahili word and means "life". This is exactly the intention of our association.
The purpose of the organisation is mainly:
- Providing medical care
- Supporting already existing schools with material
- Waste management
- Sponsoring women
- Empowerment to self help
The association pursues no commercial purpose or profit. It is solely charitable orientated.
In Zanzibar
During our vacation in January 2009 we founded on 23rd of Janauary the sister association "Maisha Zanzibar" with domicile Zanzibar. This enables us to import supplies to Tanzania tax free as well as to operate in Zanzibar as legal entity.
The association is currently run by the following persons:
