Project UHURU (handcrafts)
With project UHURU, Maisha Zanzibar is supporting a group of 13 women in Upenja. This women's group wants to make batiks.
Through financing the necessary utensils for the start up, in the long run these women will be able to sell their handcrafts on the local markets or on the music and filmfestivals in Stone Town. This is a good way for them to become more independent and at the same time to help support their families (many women are single parents).
We are contemplating to also support their further projects such as making soaps or cooking jams.
